"The drug has been used by more than 100,000 men in South Korea for a long time,"South Korean Medical Director Jung Choe Jungsaid at a meeting of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, last month.
"South Korean doctors say there is no evidence that the drug has been used to treat ED, and there are no reports of a drug being used to treat such conditions. "The drug is sold as Viagra, but is also sold as Sildenafil, which is another drug used to treat erectile dysfunction," he said.
South Korean media reported that the FDA has seized the drug in South Korea, along with Viagra, a popular sexual enhancement drug.
A South Korean doctor, Choi Soon-sil, who is not affiliated with the country's government, also told reporters that the FDA has seized the drug in the country.
"They are not interested in selling the drug. In fact, the FDA is in charge of the manufacturing and supply of the drug," he said.
The drug is the most commonly used erectile dysfunction drug in North Korea, with more than 150 million prescriptions written annually.
The drug is one of a group of medicines that treat high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart and blood circulation problems.
The drug has been sold in North Korea since 1999, and has been prescribed by doctors and hospitals.
